“Budapest Diaries” is an engaging and touching comedy-drama about people who are looking for the better side of life in the grey times of communism in Poland. About their difficult life choices in which love and dignity prove to be the determining force. The story is based on facts and a collection of short stories under the same title by the director. The story, where the main plot is a mother’s trip with her teenage son on a company Christmas shopping excursion, is set against the historical background, just before the outbreak of martial law in Poland. It is road cinema with a tinge of comedy, portraying extremely tiring trip during communism in Poland with humor an unexpected twist in Budapest.
