“Chopin! Chopin!” begins when Chopin is 25 years old. Soon after, he hears a diagnosis from a doctor that is like a verdict – advanced tuberculosis. However, this will not be a sad film about a dying genius – in the following chapters we observe Chopin, who pushes the disease away, hides it from the world, covers the signs with music. In the salons, he seduces everyone. Each chapter takes place in a different place. Chopin tries to make his life meaningful, to start a family. He bonds with Sand. He sons a brilliant student, but loses him a few months later when the boy is taken by tuberculosis. In the end, he will only take up composing. He has too little life left to make compromises in his own art. Before he dies, he finds nothing but music to make his life meaningful.
